Gizmodo, The Gadget Blog: "Worst Ever Internet Business Ideas
READ MORE: Dotcom Bubble, Microsoft, Peripherals, Press
Ever since the Web found its way into every Tom, Dick and Harry's hands a few years ago, there's been a slew of dimwitted startups that have failed miserably. Who could forget CyberRebate.com, where they charged insanely high prices for items but then offered a series of rebates that would often nullify the high cost? Word is that the company hoped customers wouldn't bother to fill out all the rebate forms and would turn a profit because of people's laziness. Yeah, that never happened.
Or what about Microsoft's bright idea for an Internet-ready outdoor bathroom, dubbed the iLoo? This was an idea born in Microsoft's MSN UK in 2003 division for a local music festival, but people apparently didn't take to well to the idea of surfing the Internet from the bathroom. (Wi-Fi seems to have filled this void quite nicely, however.)
The iSmell from Digiscents, Inc. promised to bring all the pleasant odors of the Web right to your nostrils via some atrocious looking USB device. As one might expect, this idea went over about as well as naming something the 'Wii.' (Whoops. Sorry, Nintendo.)

Gizmodo, The Gadget Blog: "Say good-bye, Goodyear blimp. Your ride is now obsolete. Lightship unveiled this beast of a blimp at the NAB broadcast conference last week. It has a massive 30-foot by 70-foot LED screen that displays over 30,000 pixels. During the day the screen is limited to a single color for visibility reasons, but at night anything goes. The airship has already been FAA approved but marketing demand is still being researched so it may be a while before it appears at any sporting events. "

READ MORE: Audio, Audio-technica, Headphones, Portable Media
Audio-Technica has announced two odd-looking headphones. The ATH-EC700 and ATH-EC700Ti provide superb sound on a 10Hz-to-24kHz range and 100dB of audio goodness. The only difference between the two is that one is made of aluminum while the other is made of titanium. They have a bit of a stethoscope look, but that's okay because it is cool to be a doctor nowadays."

We're suckers for a good piece of toast, and this concept design would be able to make every piece of toast perfect. It uses heated glass to toast bread to perfection. Inventables, the design company behind this masterpiece, says that currently the glass doesn't get hot enough to toast bread, but maybe in the future.
The only flaw seems to be the size. One piece of toast? Nobody eats just one. At least two pieces are required for ultimate toasty goodness."

Over the years, with the help of Jager and horror flicks, I've managed to develop a pretty strong stomach. But this invention makes me cringe and dry-heave a bit. This is eye jewelry developed by Eric Klarenbeek. The jewels hang from contact lenses. Supposedly they don't affect eyesight at all. It is an artistic concept, so it probably won't become the latest fashion trend, but odd nonetheless. Check out Klarenbeek's portfolio here too see all of his weird stuff."

READ MORE: Airbus, Airlines, Gadgets, Losers, Seating, Travel
Airbus hotly denies its alleged bright idea of creating coffin-sized 'standing tomb only' padded backboards created especially to cram more sardines into their flying tin cans, contradicting a New York Times article by Christopher Elliott that described the strap-on standing seats in an article last week. But Elliott cries foul in his blog, refusing to back down even though his newspaper printed a mild, sorta/kinda retraction. The Times reporter even produced an illustration of the 'seats' for all to see. Said he in his blog:
I didn't invent standing airline seats, but some believe that I have. Maybe the only way to clear this up is to post a picture of the seat that someone recently sent to me.
Who knows where this little .gif file came from, but who are we going to believe? A New York Times reporter, or an embarrassed French airline maker in cahoots with greedy, money-losing and passenger-hating airlines around the world?"

Step away from the limousine, or I'll shoot you with this ... teddy bear? The Teddy Bear Gun capitalizes on a cutesy trend in Japan where wedding guests throw teddy bears at wedding receptions instead of rice or bouquets.
If teddy bear throwing sounds like a lot of work to you, here it's made easy with a simple touch of a button. Pull the trigger and the tiny plush bear is catapulted into the air, and once airborne, it'll float safely back to earth thanks to its tiny parachute. Made by paintball gun manufacturer Sunamiya, the party crackers will go on sale this month."

READ MORE: Boredom, Portable Media, Trapped Miners, iPod
Have a lot of time to kill? Next time you're stuck in a mine, perhaps an iPod would ease the boredom of waiting to be rescued. Two guys trapped in a Tasmanian mine have been waiting for more than a week to be rescued, and they're wiling away the hours listening to iPods lowered into their small cage wedged underneath 36 feet of rock.
They have about 48 more hours to wait before rescuers will be able to free them, receiving food, water, dry clothes and blankets along with portable entertainment until then. So what songs do you think are on their playlists? 'Working in a Coal Mine'? 'Coal Miner's Daughter'?"

In what appear to be completely fake photos of the iPod AV, we learn that Apple's scientists wear ill-fitting rubber gloves and take pictures with cameras from 1989. And again, we'll post them because the blogosphere needs her meat. One more after the jump..."

Gizmodo, The Gadget Blog: "This might be a little outdated, what with the uncrackable XBox 360 out there, but it reminds us of the time we tried to hack our PS2 using the old 'knife in the DVD slot' trick and broke it. This hack lets you overclock your SNES, which results in Link's face being scattered across the screen like a highway accident. It obviously requires some experience in 'electronics' and 'not screwing up your SNES,' but it seems worth a try.
